Gokayama Tofu Kahei Shoten
The Shirakawago and Gokayama are declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1995, they are famous for gassho zukuri (traditional farmhouses with thatched roofs). On the way to Gokayama, there is a tofu (bean curd) shop. Gokayama tofu is hard enough not to crumble even if tied with rope.
Kahei shoten is in Hietsukyo Gassho line between Shirakawago and Gokayama.
A cute character Toppe-chan welcomes the guests in the shop. “Toppe” means tofu in Hida dialect.
You can buy tofu which is about 800 grams, atsuage (deep-fried tofu), iburi toppe (smoked tofu) and soft serve made from soy milk.
As soon as I bit the soft serve, I felt the taste of soy milk. It is plain and it is easy to eat up everything.
The shop is popular with not only visitors but also local people.
When you go to Gokayama Ainokura, let’s take a break with soft serve or look for souvenirs in this shop.
